THE MYSTERY OF THE FIRST ANIMATED MOVIES


El Apóstol was the world’s first animated feature film, written and directed by Quirino Cristiani in 1917. A satire, it portrayed President Yrigoyen burning down Buenos Aires with Jupiter’s thunderbolts in an attempt to bring morality to public life and eliminate corruption. No copies of the film have survived. Gabriele Zucchelli’s documentary film, made in 2006, explores the making of El Apóstol. More details…
