Alois Nebel: Opening Gala Screening & Live Music Party

As part of the Made in Prague: New Czech Cinema festival, and in association with The Czech Centre, Riverside Studios in Hammersmith present a premiere screening on the animated adaptation of the graphic novel Alois Nebel. Introduced by artist and musician Jaromír 99.

Summer 1989. Alois Nebel works as a stationmaster in a small village in the Jeseník mountains, close to the Polish border. Preferring old timetables to people, Nebel lives through his memories, haunted by the violent post-war expulsion of the Germans and getting lost in the mists of time. An encounter with a mysterious mute man and kind Květa helps him to connect the past with the present and find middle-aged love. Based on the graphic novel trilogy by Jaroslav Rudiš and Jaromír 99, this is a superbly atmospheric debut using rotoscope animation and evocative soundtrack to portray the fractured psychology of a man and his country. Official Selection, Venice Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival 2011.

Buy a joint ticket for the screening and Alois Nebel Live Music Party with a complimentary Staropramen beer: £8.50 / £7.50 concs.

Alois Nebel Live Music Party starts 9.45 pm at Riverside Studios. To celebrate the Alois Nebel screening, composers Jaromír 99 (Priessnitz), Jan P.Muchow (The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa) and Dušan Neuwerth (Tata Bojs), members of the Umakart band, will perform live their original score and launch the new Umakart CD Wolves at the door to be released by Supraphon on 19 October.
