Grand Opening Weekend of Comica Festival 2012:

Over the upcoming inaugural weekend of Comica Festival 2012, November 2nd to 5th, there are a range of ticketed and free events and exhibition openings with British and international superstar guests!
This year’s biggest and best Comica Festival is thrilled to host Robert and Aline Crumb, who inaugurate our two-week season of Comica Conversations at the iconic London bookstore, Foyles. Tickets for their only UK appearance to launch their new compendium Drawn Together on Saturday November 3rd are very nearly sold out, so don’t delay, be sure to check availability at this booking link.
Aline Crumb will also be taking part in a panel discussion entitled Fifty Shades of Comics: The Erotic Imagination on Sunday November 4th from 6.30pm, joining erotic fiction writer Evie Blake, author of a new novel based on Guido Crepax’s complex heroine Valentina, and Karrie Fransman, creator of the haunting body-issues graphic novel, The House That Groaned. As for the Comica Festival Opening Night Launch Party on Friday November 2nd, all are invited (subject to you sending us an RSVP to comicafestival[at]gmail.com and to capacity!) to discover the winners of this year’s 6th Observer/Jonathan Cape/Comica Graphic Short Story Prize. Previous winners will join the judges to discuss the prize and preview their major graphic novels now commissioned by Cape. There will also be the World Premiere of a Live Performance by writer Ravi Thornton and composer/pianist Othon Mataragas of Thornton’s dazzling graphic novel, The Tale of Brin & Bent & Minno Marylebone, drawn by Andy Hixon.
There are two other events taking place on Sunday November 4th: first, a free, fascinating Manhwa & UK Comics NetWorkShop bringing together 5 top Korean artists and 5 British comics creators for an exchange of cultures and experiences. Among others Min-Woo Hyung, creator of Priest, made into a Hollywood movie, will meet Marvel and DC writer David Hine, creator of Strange Embrace. The event is free and includes free reception with Anglo-Korean bites and 100 manhwa books given away to attendees. And secondly also on Sunday at Foyles, explore the striking storytelling of two European comics visionaries, Anke Feuchtenberger from Germany and Andrzej Klimowski from Poland, in a Comica Conversation from 4.30pm entitled Intimate Interiors. Finally, Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November! On Monday night, the Goethe-Institut invites you to the Opening Party to unveil its major free-entry exhibition Comica, Manga & Co. in their refurbished premises in South Kensington. Anke will be there, and so will authority Andreas Knigge, to talk with Comica Festival Co-Director Paul Gravett about the renaissance of German comics culture. Come and discover the works of fifteen of the country’s finest graphic novelists.
